UKIERI recently organised a Financial Skills Seminar in Pune on April 18 with support from Mahratta Chamber of Commerce, Industries and Agriculture, Pune. It was very well attended by more than 100 UK and Indian business and academic delegates including a high power delegation led by Rt Hon.Lord Mayor of London who delivered a strong key-note speech wherein he supported the efforts made by UKIERI in facilitating UK and India cooperation in research and education and also suggested the future direction by way of facilitating collaborations in “Political Risk Research”.
The theme of panel discussion was “Global Enterprise Risk Management-Financial Risks and Challenges” which has been attracting attention across the globe amongst the business esp. entrepreneurial community and the academia. Eminent panellists included:
- Mr Graham Ward, Senior Partner, Price Water House Coopers, UK
- Dr Pratip Kar, Dean of Finance and Corporate Governance, Tata Management Training Centre, Pune
- Dr Kailash Mishra, Director, National insurance Academy, Pune
- Mr George Littlejohn, International Director, Securities Investment Institute, UK
A detailed presentation by Dr Satinder Bhatia, Director, IIFT along with Mr Andrew M. Williamson, City College Norwich, on their UKIERI’s PTS project, was one of main highlights.
The relationship of UKIERI with KPMG in their capacity of “key stone partner with Financial Services Skills Exchange” was also strongly echoed.
The event was unique as well as critical in several ways such as focus on a specific partnership with a niche focus highlighting UKIERI’s underlying aims and objectives, involvement of a local business and trade chamber (MCCIA) as a support and venue partner, spreading the reach of UKIERI to the audience of a non-Metropolitan city such as Pune, and the effort to involve local entrepreneurs and the academia who hold a strong stake in the subject. The feedback received is very positive and encouraging.
-“Panel Discussion threw light on all dimensions and speakers were articulate. Keep it up” – An academician from Pune.
-“It was a wonderful seminar. I take back a lot of knowledge and insight into corporate governance and what risk management is. We look forward to seeking advice and guidance from our UK counterparts in carrying out our business more effectively. Thanks and very well presented”- An entrepreneur from Pune.
