ships so as to significantly increase the level of engagement between UK and Indian schools. lusters of schools in each country can apply to join

the Initiative via the UKIERI website www.ukieri.org. The composition of school clusters can differ; they can be made up entirely of primary schools, secondary schools, a mixture of both, or special needs schools. UK clusters should consist of four schools while Indian clusters should have six schools. Applications are considered against the criteria for the programme and their relevance to the overall aims of UKIERI, as well as the need to match the different types of cluster applications received from schools in each country. One contact seminar will be held each year, attended by cluster leaders and teachers from the UK and India.

Currently there are 11 cluster partnerships in all, out of which four are

sponsored by the Corporate Champions. The Initiative is grateful for their abiding interest in the School Strand and the valuable staff time and in kind resources that they contribute towards it

Priority areas:

Collaborative projects for schools will be undertaken in these priority areas of mutual interest:

  • Arts/creative industries
  • Teaching of languages
  • Science and Tech.

    T

he workshop aimed to introduce enhanced teaching and  learning experiences   using creative collaborative technologies. The

objective of the workshop was to help develop and enrich sustainable UKIERI partnerships through effective implementation of ICT. Two Indian and two UK representatives from each of the 11 UKIERI School clusters participated.

Outcome: The workshop was interactive and included many hands on sessions, with cluster partners working on laptops and asking questions if they were having trouble getting to grips with new techniques. We will arrange follow up sessions for clusters that have requested further ICT training in the areas addressed over the ICT workshop and aim for more attendees per cluster, so that the creative ICT techniques can be more easily rolled out across all participating schools

    CONTACT SEMINAR IN DELHI
    T

he School Strand of UKIERI aims to forge strategic partnerships in

education and facilitate design and development of joint curriculum projects. Clusters of schools in India and the UK were invited to apply through an Expression of Interest form. 11 clusters comprising 6 Indian schools and 4 UK schools each were selected by the UK-India Joint Evaluation Panel in August

2006. While 7 of these clusters are supported by the core UKIERI funding, the other 4 have been sponsored by the UKIERI Corporate Champions – Glaxo SmithKline, Shell, British Aerospace and British Petroleum. These 11 clusters have each received a grant of £25,000 for a period of three years and the Contact seminar in October 2006 provided opportunities for the cluster representatives to meet their partners and agree on a broad project outline for their joint curriculum projects for the next three years
