PARTNERSHIPS SEMINAR
NEW DELHI, NOVEMBER 2007
UKIERI organised a one-day seminar on 'Developing UK-India Collaborative Degree Partnerships' in New Delhi on November 4, 2007. Over 190 delegates participated in the event with 75 delegates from UK Universities. The seminar provided information on best practices in developing the UK and Indian partnerships. The sessions included approaches to delivery of collaborative projects, the Indian regulatory environment, quality assurance requirements, concerns related to academic/teaching staff development, student exchanges, motivational factors for institutional partnerships with a focus on employability and entrepreneurship development
POLICY DIALOGUE WORKSHOP
CHENNAI, MARCH 2008
The third UKIERI Higher Education Policy Dialogue, Chennai brought together representatives from the UK, India, Australia and New Zealand to share knowledge and experience in quality assurance in higher education. Indian regulatory authorities like UGC, NAAC and AICTE also participated along with 90 delegates. Quality assurance issues in transnational education in India in light of the higher education policies and mechanisms to be implemented during the 11th Five Year Plan were discussed
 
 
FICCI HIGHER EDUCATION SUMMIT ON INNOVATION
FOR QUALITY & RELEVANCE
NEW DELHI, NOVEMBER 2007
A two-day summit at New Delhi on 'Innovation for Quality & Relevance' was supported by UK as the partner country through UKIERI. Lord Chris Patten, Chancellor, Oxford University, UK, delivered the keynote address at the conference with an active participation of 72 delegates from UK Universities. UKIERI plenary session on 'Lessons
from International Cooperation', was one of the key highlights of the summit. UKIERI also organised close to 100 Business-to-Business (B2B) meetings between the UK and Indian institutions to further accelerate partnership opportunities in higher education
CLIMATE CHANGE EVENT
NEW DELHI, NOVEMBER 2007
UKIERI organised a 'Climate Change Event' on November 21, 2007 at the British Council, New Delhi, showcasing Indo-UK linkages on climate change research and highlighting innovations of various collaborative projects. Sir David King, FRS, Chief Scientific Advisor and Head of the Government Office for Science, launched the UKIERI Major Award on 'Science of Regional Climate Change, Variability and Impacts' implemented by University of Reading and Indian Institute of Tropical Meteorology, Pune and the UKIERI Standard Award on 'Impact of climate change on the water cycle and ecosystem functioning at the river basin scale' implemented by Institute for Sustainable Water, Integrated Management and Ecosystem Research, University of Liverpool and Indian Institute of Technology, Delhi (Department of Civil Engineering) at the event

POLICY DIALOGUE WORKSHOP
KOLKATA, MARCH 2007
Maximising collaborative opportunities due to the internationalisation of education has been a challenge. Over 60 delegates from universities and research centres of both countries converged in Kolkata to brainstorm on widening access and improving greater social inclusion in higher education. Eminent academicians and policy makers explored ways to overcome the financial and social barriers for students who wish to gain access to higher education
SCHOOL CONTACT SEMINAR
CHESHIRE, SEPTEMBER 2007
UKIERI Contact Seminar for the second Cohort of clusters participating in the Cluster School Partnership Programme was held at Wychwood Park, Cheshire, UK from September 21-25, 2007 with 27 Indian delegates and 26 UK delegates. Two Interaction Facilitators (Emilia Arthur and Christine Essien) conducted activities like speed-dating, ice-breakers, power of questions, assumptions of great partnerships, discussions on cluster priorities and aspirations, etc

MEMORIAL LECTURE

The Jack Gibson Memorial Lecture was organised at New Delhi as a part of the School strand's commitment to foster policy dialogue on education. Professor David Hopkins, HSBC Chair in International Leadership at the Institute of Education, University of London, UK, delivered the lecture and spoke at length on 'School Leadership for the 21st Century'

The event was attended by 80 delegates from University Grants Commission (UGC), All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE), Indian State Governments, Indian Public and Private Sector Higher Education Providers, the British Council, the UK Higher Education Providers and academicians and researchers from the UK and India

The ICT workshop on Enhanced Teaching and Learning Experiences using Creative Collaborative Technologies was organised at National College of School Leadership, Nottingham. The workshop aimed to provide new educational opportunities for schools, new learning opportunities for students and professional development opportunities for teachers through the use of blogging, podcasting, web-conferencing and video editing
