
UKIERI in its second phase is being supported by a large number of stakeholders in the UK and India. These include the Department of Business, Innovation and Skills (BIS), Foreign and Commonwealth Office (FCO), British Council, Welsh Assembly Government and the Ministry of Human Resource Development, Government of India.
A description of the strategic objectives of these partners who support the programme is provided below:
Department of Business, Innovation and Skills (BIS): BIS aims to engage with international partners and develop the skills of people to carry out world class research and thrive in a global economy. The Government office for Science within BIS also aims to promote science based research partnerships at individual, research group and institutional levels to encourage reciprocal exchange of students and researchers.
Ministry of Human Resource Development (MHRD), Government of India: MHRD is the Department of Higher Education of the Government of India and is responsible for laying down the national policy on education and overseeing its implementation. It is responsible for planned development of university & higher education, technical education and international cooperation in the field of education and granting of scholarships to the deserving students.
Foreign and Commonwealth Office (FCO): FCO supports the delivery of the UK government’s international education objectives and through UKIERI it is working towards promoting UK as the partner of choice for education.
British Council: The British Council aims to work towards strengthening the international dimension of UK’s work in education and engage with government representatives, policy makers, students and young people world-wide.
Welsh Assembly Government: The Welsh Government aims to promote its objectives in research and innovation, economic, social and personal development and skill training.

Corporate Involvement in UKIERI: Working in partnership with businesses has been a key component of UKIERI, as we recognise that these partnerships enhance the sustainability of the initiative. Shell, GlaxoSmithklin, BP and BAE Systems have been associated with the initiative as Corporate Champions along with KPMG and LCCI supporting the PTS strand respectively .The Corporate sector has been significantly contributing since the first year of the programme. Their support is also an acknowledgement of the resources, reach and expertise that the industry possesses which can multiply the impact, manifolds.
In the coming period, UKIERI aims to garner substantial interest from both Indian and the UK businesses, which have a direct and immediate interest in the development of India’s education sector along with providing access to bright young students and professionals from India and the UK, who would be future leaders and decision makers.
