Leadership development across Higher and Further Education,
and Schools has been identified as a key area for collaboration for both
India and the UK. The strand aims to work with the Indian institutions,
schools, colleges in providing opportunities to teachers, faculty and senior
staff for capacity building with UK’s support.
The Indian HRD Minister in his expansion plans has advocated the need for
developing world class institutions and thereby it is imperative that the
leadership skills are honed for the current and future leaders of these
institutions. The strand programmes are therefore scoped with the Indian
context and will aim to work with current high performing heads in India and
the UK to identify specific requirements for developing leadership
capacities of individuals that would help in effective management of
institutions and schools.
The strand will focus towards building and implementing a five year
strategic plan to transform leadership and management in Indian schools,
Higher Education and Further Education institutions. The strand would focus
on working with state government schools, second tier universities and
regional institutions to develop academic leadership programmes that
provides core knowledge and skills required to become an effective leader.
Key Objectives:
• To increase leadership capacity in schools and develop and deliver
a programme that will meet the needs of the Indian school education system.
• To develop an academic HE leadership programme that provides core
knowledge and skills required to become an effective leader and link centres
of excellence of Higher Education, both India and the UK.
• To develop an academic FE leadership programme that provides knowledge and
skills required for institutional leadership in Further Education
institutions and colleges and thereby creating sustainable linkages between
India and the UK FEIs.
