Schools Partnerships
The School Partnerships Strand of the UKIERI has been contributing significantly to the UKIERI's aim of creating a life-long relationship between young people in UK and India and to assist them in meeting their need to live and operate in a global economy. With over 380 schools currently on the programme in India and UK, the UKIERI School Strand has surpassed the targets which were set in 2006. CURRENT STATUS: UKIERI is the first school programme where a good balance between the clusters of 127 state-funded to 148 private schools has been reached in India. In the first year 11 clusters were supported through the programme while in the second year 13 clusters of schools have embarked on a journey of learning and evolving together. In the third year a further 13 cluster partnerships were formed, and all of these partnerships will be supported by UKIERI in their joint curriculum projects for three years. Of the total of 37 cluster of schools, 4 clusters in the first year and 2 clusters in the second year have been sponsored by Shell, BP, GSK and BAE. The Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalayas located in remote rural areas, with their inter-school migration policies and many a meritorious students achieving high academic excellence have benefited immeasurably through the programme.
