Schools Partnerships

The School Partnerships Strand of the UKIERI was launched to contribute significantly to the UKIERI's aim of creating a life-long relationship between young people in UK and India and to assist them in meeting their need to live and operate in a global economy. To meet this aim UKIERI facilitated partnerships between clusters of school in India and UK . The successful clusters first met and chose their partners at the Contact Seminar.

CURRENT STATUS:

With over 380 schools currently on the programme in India and UK, the UKIERI School Strand is well underway to meeting its objective. UKIERI is the first school programme where a good balance between the clusters of 127 state-funded to 148 private schools has been reached in India. In the first year 11 clusters were supported through the programme while in the second year 13 clusters of schools have embarked on a journey of learning and evolving together. In the third year a further 13 cluster partnerships were formed, and all of these partnerships will be supported by UKIERI in their joint curriculum projects for three years. Of the total of 37 cluster of schools, 4 clusters in the first year and 2 clusters in the second year have been sponsored by Shell, BP, GSK and BAE. The Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalayas located in remote rural areas, with their inter-school migration policies and many a meritorious students achieving high academic excellence have benefited immeasurably through the programme.
So what have emerged to be the key principles of UKIERI Cluster School Partnerships?
These are:

  • Making learning fun
  • Engaging with technology
  • Create professional teaching resources
  • Sharing learning resources
  • Connecting with the outside world
  • Bringing the world into your classroom
  • Appreciating different learning and teaching styles
  • Leadership for learning

The early signs are that these ‘partnerships' are here to stay --for years to come, and not just 3 years…the funding will cease after three years but the conversations will continue and the conversations will make a difference !
